Covington Fire Department

The mission of the Covington Fire Department is to minimize the loss of life and property resulting from fires, medical emergencies, and other disasters. We will accomplish our mission through fire suppression, emergency medical service, hazard mitigation, fire prevention, fire education, and other emergency and non-emergency activities.

Fire & Rescue Services

The Covington Fire Department provides fire and rescue service from five fire stations utilizing four engines, two ladder trucks, one specialized rescue, and five ALS ambulances. The department also consists of a command staff that leads the fire department in daily operations.

The Insurance Service Organization (ISO) is an independent company that collects and evaluates information about municipal fire suppression efforts in communities throughout the United States. The  data is analyzed using their Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) and then a Public Protection Classification (PPC) number from 1 to 10 is assigned to the community. Class 1 represents an exemplary fire suppression program, and Class 10 indicates that the area's fire suppression program does not meet ISO's minimum criteria.

Emergency Medical Services

The Fire Department manages all EMS services for the City and staffs five advanced life support ambulances 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The ambulances respond to greater than 9,000 calls for service per year. Strategically stationed in firehouses throughout the city, three full-time ambulances and two cross-staffed ambulances serve the residents of Covington.

Emergency Medical Service Units, more commonly known as Ambulances, are dispatched upon 911 Emergency calls and provide transportation to the nearest hospital. The City does bill for this service, and therefore patients utilizing this service will receive a bill in the mail from Intermedix, the Fire Department’s third party billing agency. Any questions regarding this service can be directed to the Fire Department at 859-431-0462 or Intermedix directly at 1-888-987-2083
